This November, Skanska employees will rollup their sleeves and team up with the American Cancer Society as a founding sponsor of the Valley’s second Big Dig in the Desert event.

More than 1,200 big and little construction “operators” are expected to attend the unique fundraiser, which gives local Phoenix children, including those with cancer, the opportunity to operate heavy machinery, including back-hoes, diggers, excavators (with supervision), and much more.

The event is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at DMB’s Eastmark Mesa property at 10100 E Ray Rd. in Mesa.

Skanska is sponsoring the “Kid’s Zone,” which will feature all types of kid-friendly activities, including Lego building and coloring.

“One of the best parts of our job is any time a child walks near one of our sites and looks with amazement at all the activity and equipment,” said Ross Vroman, executive vice president and general manager of Skanska’s Phoenix operations. “We are delighted to participate in this second annual event which will be a memorable experience for children and adults alike.”

Sponsors and ticketholders are “hard hats” for the day, helping operate heavy construction equipment at this family event. There will also be Mesa Police Department helicopters, vehicles and canines and Mesa Fire Department vehicles for up-close-and-personal experiences.

A family five-pack is $50 and admits up to five family members. Tickets may be purchased at https://acsphoenix.ejoinme.org/BigDigPhoenixFor more information, please contact Sarah Philippe at Sarah.Philippe@CANCER.ORG or 602.952.7509.
