Sunday A'Fair Concert Series In Scottsdale Begins January 13

Make your way to the Scottsdale Civic Center Park in January, and don’t forget your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets ― the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ Sunday A’Fair outdoor concert series is back.

The first concert will take place on January 13 with performances by Marty & The Party Bank and Tesoro from noon to 4 p.m. The Sunday A’Fair concerts will take place on selected Sunday afternoons through the winter and spring, with each A’Fair will featuring two bands along with a fine arts and crafts market, fun activities for the kids and free admission to Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SmoCA). Free guided tours of the Museum are offered at 1:30 p.m. and of the sculptures in the park at 3 p.m.

During the Sunday A’Fair, hungry attendees can purchase delicious foods from the grill, sweet-and-savory crepes from Nosh, and cocktails, beer, wine and soft drinks.

Sunday A’Fair is made possible by presenting sponsors Scottsdale Insurance Company and Nationwide Foundation. Free admission to SMoCA is sponsored by Lewis and Roca LLP.

• Marty & The Party Band, noon – 1:30 p.m.: Music that makes you feel good – from oldies to country to Latin jazz
• Tesoro, 2 – 4 p.m.: 
Flamenco fusion with rock, world and jazz influences

January 20 – Peace and Community Day

• RastaFarmers, noon – 1:30 p.m.: A unique mix of rock, low-rider oldies, dancehall, Soca, Afro-beat, Latin and roots
• Jan Sandwich Band, 2 – 4 p.m.: Jazz standards from the great American Songbook
  Presented in conjunction with the Scottsdale Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration and Community Celebrating Diversity.

January 27

• Silver Thread Trio, noon – 1:30 p.m.: Tightly voiced harmonies and well-crafted arrangements ranging from gospel, old-time and Appalachian to alternative country
• The Big Fellahs, 2 – 4 p.m.: Traditional Irish with heart and a twang.

February 10

• Sugar Thieves, noon – 1:30 p.m.: Southern-style sultry blues roots with high-energy showmanship
• Bad News Blues Band, 2 – 4 p.m.: Hardcore blues meets big-band swing

February 24

• Rooster Coupe Deville, noon – 1:30 p.m.: Crooning vocals, jumpin’ guitars, jive rhythms and wailing saxophones
• Cold Shott and the Hurricane Horns, 2 – 4 p.m.: Classic and contemporary R&B, soul, rock, funk and jazz

March 3

• The Photo Atlas, noon – 1:30 p.m.: Stinging post-punk powered by racing dance rhythms
  The Photo Atlas is presented, in part, with funds provided by the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF), the Arizona Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
• Doctor Bones, 2 – 4 p.m.: A quirky, avant-pop mixture of new wave and punk, with an ear for dynamic tension, emotional swells and dance-inducing beats

March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day

• Bad Cactus Brass Band, noon – 1:30 p.m.: A young, energetic band with the spirit of New Orleans
• Keltic Cowboys, 2 – 4 p.m.: Arizona’s premier Irish rock band, playing Highland pipes, banjo, mandolin and more

March 24

• Flamenco de Leon, noon – 1:30 p.m.: A passionate blend of flamenco, vocals and percussion
• Jazz Con Alma, 2 – 4 p.m.: “Jazz with Soul” featuring the Latin-inspired piano rhythms of Beth Lederman

March 31

• Alice Tatum Quartet, noon – 1:30 p.m.: Popular songs, rousing dance numbers, timeless standards and intimate ballads
• Area 25, 2 – 4 p.m.: Original compositions infused with Latin and Brazilian rhythms

April 7 – OrigiNation: A Festival of Native Cultures

• Noon – 4 p.m.
: Presented in conjunction with Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ Discovery Series, OrigiNation offers the opportunity to explore native cultures in Arizona and India through music, song, dance, storytelling and more.
