Green Valley Recreation, Inc. (GVR) has hired WSM Architects of Tucson to conduct a comprehensive assessment of GVR’s 14 facilities and develop a 10-Year Strategic Master Facility Plan.

With approval of the GVR Board of Directors and the signing of the contract on July 15, WSM will begin the year-long project, which includes an assessment of facility conditions, current and future needs by staff and members, the identification of opportunities for “green technology” and energy conservation, and the development of recommendations for future growth, enhancements, and use of space with cost estimates and prioritization.

WSM will conduct numerous member outreach meetings to gather input from GVR’s staff and members, and identify benchmarks and trends, such as changing demographics and needs.

GVR is a non-profit organization that operates and maintains 13 recreational centers, most of which were deeded by developers of age-restricted homeowners associations, in addition to an administrative office.  A master facility plan has never been developed to assist GVR leadership in long-term management and upkeep of the centers.

GVR has nearly 23,000 members in this active adult community who are allowed access and use of all of GVR’s facilities and amenities, which include pickleball, tennis and sports courts, pools, spas and saunas, a performing arts auditorium, specialty hobby shops and multipurpose meeting space.

A contract was negotiated with WSM after GVR’s Planning and Evaluation Committee and its Facilities Assessment Work Group solicited 35 architectural and engineering firms statewide to submit proposals for the project.  In the highly selective competitive bidding process, 11 firms submitted Letters of Interest and the top four firms were invited to tour GVR’s facilities and submitted proposals for consideration.  WSM Architects was selected for their personalized customer service, interpersonal relations skills and ability to connect with GVR’s varied membership, and experience with similar projects in Arizona.
