A proposal for a new boutique hotel near the Westin Kierland was presented to the Paradise Valley Village Planning Committee on Monday, April 2.

Developers plan to build an AC Marriott hotel next to Kierland Commons in Scottsdale. During the recent meeting, committee members and the public were able to comment and ask questions about the proposed hotel.

Heidi Short, a partner at Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie, gave a presentation to the committee and the public in attendance about an AC Marriott hotel, which developers hope to build in the current parking lot of the Westin Kierland Resort.

According to the Planned Unit Development narrative, the proposed hotel will serve to tie the Westin Kierland Resort to the shopping facilities nearby.

The AC Marriott will “utilize landscaping, pedestrian scale architecture and enhanced pedestrian connections to integrate the existing Resort facilities, the modern addition of the boutique hotel and the Kierland Commons shopping center to create an enhanced pedestrian and guest experience within and near the resort.”

“(Kierland) needs to build a younger generation which is the purpose of this proposed hotel along with making that connection to the Kierland Commons,” Short said.

The proposed AC Marriott would be built on the northwest corner of Greenway Parkway and Kierland Boulevard and would be have 165 rooms in a six-story hotel.

This proposed hotel is being developed by Kierland on its current property. The Westin Kierland was acquired by Marriott International in September of 2017.

The civil engineer for this project is Wood/Patel which is based in Phoenix.

Construction could start as early as December, and it would take 15 months to complete the project, said Bruce Lange, the general manager of Westin Kierland, during the meeting.

The Arizona Center in Downtown Phoenix has announced plans to add an AC Marriott hotel to their property as well. There is also an AC Marriott in Tempe, Arizona.

The Paradise Valley Village Planning Committee will hold a vote within the next two months to decide if plans for the hotel can move forward. A new place to stay may be built near the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa.
