Arizona will be getting another Super Bowl in 2023, according to reports coming out of the NFL owners meetings in Atlanta.
The league will award the 2023 Super Bowl to Arizona and the 2024 game to New Orleans, SportsBusiness Journal reported Monday. An announcement is expected this week during the NFL owners’ meetings in Atlanta.
Super Bowl 57 will be the third at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, which also hosted in 2008 and 2015. Arizona also hosted the Super Bowl at Sun Devil Stadium in 1996.
According to reports, Super Bowl 58 will see the Superdome extend its record for the most times hosting the big game to eight, but it will end up being a lengthy gap between slots — the Super Bowl was last played in New Orleans in 2013. The 2024 event will be the 11th Super Bowl to be held in the Crescent City, as Tulane Stadium hosted three times in the 1970s before the Superdome opened.
Those announcements will lock in the hosts for the next six Super Bowls. The 2019 game will be hosted by Atlanta, with 2020 in Miami, 2021 in Tampa and 2022 in Los Angeles at the new Rams and Chargers stadium.
The W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University determined that Super Bowl XLIX, the 2015 Pro Bowl and related events produced a gross economic impact of $719.4 million in the region.
This is the largest economic impact of any special event ever held in the state of Arizona, as well as the highest for any Super Bowl for which publicly released figures are available. By comparison, Super Bowl XLII played at University of Phoenix Stadium in 2008 generated a gross economic impact of $500.6 million (2008 dollars) based on research also conducted by the W.P. Carey School of Business.
