BCBSAZ employees volunteer more than 2,700 hours

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ) is dedicated to giving back to the community and supporting programs that help Arizonans year-round. In 2018, through its CARES Club initiative, more than 240 BCBSAZ employees volunteered 2,700 hours supporting 25 charitable activities across the state.

From drives to gather or purchase supplies for organizations including Arizona Humane Society, 19NORTH, and Luke Air Force Base, to raising money to provide 7,000 meals for the food insecure through St. Mary’s Food Bank, BCBSAZ gives employees the opportunity to support the causes they are passionate about.

CARES Club is operated by a board of directors made up of BCBSAZ employee volunteers. The program empowers participants to get involved in the community and also improves relationships and communications among all employees. CARES Club is one of many ways BCBSAZ helps give back to the community to improve the lives of Arizonans.

Cigna builds blessings in a backpack

Earlier this week, Cigna and Express Scripts employees at the Cigna Norterra office celebrated the combination of the two companies by filling 1,500 backpacks with food for children at Nevitt Elementary School in Tempe. The event marked the beginning of a new global $25 million program, Healthier Kids for Our Future, and demonstrated the newly combined company’s commitment to communities. The local event was part of a nationwide Cigna initiative that is the largest-ever in Blessings in a Backpack’s 10-Year history.
