Josh Schimmels is returning to AZ Big Media.

Schimmels, who was AZ Big Media’s vice president of business development from 2005-2010, is returning to the company as publisher, beginning March 18, 2019.

“Josh was instrumental in launching many of our signature events, including the RED Awards,” said Mike Atkinson, AZ Big Media’s president and CEO. “He brings energy, enthusiasm and innovative ideas that will help AZ Big Media continue its success as the publisher of Arizona’s leading business magazines and creator of the state’s best business recognition events.”

After leaving Arizona, Schimmels spent time in Southern California, where he spent a combined 10 years serving as associate publisher and vice president of the Los Angeles Business Journal and San Fernando Valley Business Journal. From there, Schimmels moved to Dallas, where he was the Business Group Publisher at D Magazine Partners (Dallas), which includes D CEO magazine, the news sites D CEO Healthcare and D CEO Real Estate, along with the D Real Estate Annual, Dallas 500 and other ancillary publications.  Schimmels also oversaw DRC Publications, a division that produces custom business magazines for the Dallas Regional Chamber as well as the digital news site of DallasInnovates.com. 

Schimmels earned a bachelor’s in media/broadcasting from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and an MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business. He is involved with CEOs Against Cancer through the American Cancer Society and has served on boards and committees in Arizona that include The Economic Club of Phoenix, Financial Executives International, Junior Achievement of Arizona, Arizona Association for Economic Development and BOMA.

Josh Schimmels has a wife and two young daughters and is passionate about sports, having completed the Ironman triathlon twice.
