Ducey selects Kathryn Hackett King as regent, reappoints Karrin Taylor Robson

Governor Doug Ducey announced the appointment of Kathryn (Kate) Hackett King to fill a recent vacancy on the Arizona Board of Regents. The Governor also announced the reappointment of Regent Karrin Taylor Robson to a full term.

“Kate is without a doubt one of the most capable and ethical individuals I’ve had the pleasure of working within state government,” said Governor Ducey. “Her vast legal expertise in labor and employment law and passion for public service make her an ideal fit for this role. I am confident that she will bring the same level of integrity and excellence that she’s known for as an advocate for Arizona’s students, taxpayers and public universities.”

“I’m honored to be appointed by Governor Ducey to serve on the Arizona Board of Regents,” said King. “Arizona’s universities have made their mark as world-class institutions of higher learning — preparing tens of thousands of students every year for success outside the classroom. I am excited to get to work to help build upon the incredible legacies of our public universities to the benefit of students and the communities they call home.”

King is a Partner at BurnsBarton PLC, a woman-owned labor and employment law firm. She has experience representing and counseling both private and public employers on a broad range of labor and employment law matters, including discrimination, harassment, wage and hour issues, disability accommodations, employment agreements and more.

Governor Ducey initially appointed Karrin Taylor Robson to the Arizona Board of Regents in 2017. This appointment is for a full 8-year term on the Board.

“Karrin has been a vocal champion for Arizona’s universities, working to increase educational attainment while promoting civics involvement among all Arizona’s students,” said Governor Ducey. “Her work ethic and professionalism are second to none, and I am pleased to reappoint her to this important position.”

Taylor Robson is the Founder and President of Arizona Strategies, a land use strategy and real estate development company. Her early accomplishments on the Board include establishing the Regents Cup, a debate competition focused on free speech and civil discourse that gives students the opportunity to compete for scholarships and course credit while living out our country’s founding values.
