The PGA Tour Champions announced that the Charles Schwab Cup Championship will move to Papago Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona, starting in 2027. This decision follows Phoenix Country Club’s plans to undergo a year-long, multi-million-dollar renovation beginning in the summer of 2027.

The 2026 Charles Schwab Cup Championship will take place at Phoenix Country Club from November 12–15. This season-ending event will feature the top 36 golfers in the Charles Schwab Cup standings following this past weekend’s Simmons Bank Championship. Defending champion Stewart Cink currently leads the standings, with Zach Johnson, Steven Alker, Padraig Harrington, and Retief Goosen rounding out the top five. The tournament will determine both the event winner and the season-long Charles Schwab Cup champion.
“We are excited to bring the Charles Schwab Cup Championship to Papago Golf Club in 2027, as the challenging layout and rich history make it an ideal venue for our season finale,” said PGA Tour Champions President Miller Brady. “Our players start each year with a goal of winning the Charles Schwab Cup, and we’re looking forward to that season-long race coming to a thrilling finish in Phoenix once again.”
Papago Golf Club is owned by the City of Phoenix and managed by Troon. The Arizona Golf Community Foundation (AGCF), led by President Gregg Tryhus along with representatives from Arizona State University and the City of Phoenix, leases the municipal golf course from the city and oversees its business and operational functions.
“Papago is a community hub for all in Phoenix. A campus of great golf, a community-centric food and beverage business, ASU team facilities, and a home for the non-profits in Arizona that deliver the game’s growth and value systems daily,” said Tryhus. “We’re excited to have the opportunity to showcase these facilities through an event as significant as the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.”
Named one of the 30 Best Municipal Golf Courses in America, Papago Golf Club is located in the heart of Papago Park, surrounded by native desert landscape and the picturesque Papago Buttes. The 7,380-yard, par-72 golf course was originally designed by William Francis (Billy) Bell in 1963 and has undergone a remarkable revitalization over the last 18-plus years. No stranger to high-profile golf events, Papago hosted the 1971 U.S. Amateur Public Links, the J Golf Phoenix LPGA International in 2009, and has annually hosted the Arizona Open since 2024. Papago is also home to Arizona State University’s men’s and women’s golf teams, and the teams’ state-of-the-art, indoor/outdoor practice facility, the Thunderbirds Golf Complex.
The Charles Schwab Cup Championship has been played at Phoenix Country Club since 2017 with the iconic venue producing plenty of memorable moments, including a walk-off eagle in 2019, a nine-hole playoff in 2020, and a Stewart Cink sweep in 2025.
“Thank you to the members and staff at Phoenix Country Club for a decade of memories and helping the Charles Schwab Cup Championship to raise over $2.67 million for Arizona charities over that time,” said Charles Schwab Cup Championship Executive Director Tiffany Nelson-Thorne. “Our 2026 event will be a celebration of this historic Club and outstanding golf course.”
