SunGard Availability Services announced it has completed expansion of its data center in Scottsdale, Ariz. Designed to meet increasing customer demand for colocation, managed services and recovery services, SunGard’s investment will help customers address their business IT needs without incurring the capital and operating expenses of building and running their own data centers.

The expansion project adds 7,400 square feet of raised floor and nearly one megawatt of power, bringing the facility’s total capacity to three megawatts. SunGard offers customers a 100 percent power availability service level agreement and their choice of six tier-one Internet Service Providers for network availability, capacity and diversity. SunGard delivers fully managed IT services and recovery services with experienced staff on premise 24×7 within the expanded Scottsdale facility.

The Scottsdale project follows major expansions at SunGard data centers in Philadelphia and Carlstadt, N.J. earlier this year. SunGard has made a major commitment to Arizona with data centers in Scottsdale and Phoenix, and the Scottsdale project’s general contractor was Caliente Construction of Mesa, Ariz. The Phoenix/Scottsdale region is seen as an optimal data center location due to the area’s low risk of natural disasters; low-cost, reliable energy supplies; and close proximity to Southern California.

“This expansion better enables organizations to select space and power environments to meet their needs today and be confident they can grow as requirements evolve – with ability to add managed and recovery services for long-term agility,” said Joe Sullivan, vice president, product management – managed services, SunGard Availability Services.

“Customers are backed by a skilled team of multi-specialty IT professionals who provide comprehensive technical, administrative and engineering support for their application environments.”

SunGard’s colocation and managed services allow organizations to run their business applications at a SunGard facility rather than at their own data centers. SunGard solutions include hosting services, application services, e-mail and collaboration services, network services, managed security services, storage services and replication services.

These solutions are suited to organizations of all sizes that require a secure, highly available and redundant IT environment.

At the Scottsdale facility, SunGard also offers disaster recovery services that help organizations recover from business interruptions, and Workforce Continuity services that provide an alternative workspace when a customer facility is unavailable, allowing employees to quickly return to work. Workforce Continuity can support business processes including call center, customer service, order processing, help desk and other key customer functions.

The Scottsdale data center demonstrates SunGard’s commitment to governance, risk and compliance through annual SSAE16 Type II audits, following the ITILv3 framework and certification to the ISO 20000-1 standard. SunGard further enhances its regulatory posture by following security procedures that comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS), HIPAA and NIST SP 800-53.
