Banner Boswell Medical Center is in full celebration mode as long-time volunteer George Bunce reached a momentous occasion in his life: celebrating his 100th birthday on June 10. Bunce is a courtesy cart driver with guest services at Banner Boswell, where he has held this position since 1998 and has more than 4,000-plus hours of volunteer service under his belt. He is also the oldest volunteer at Banner Boswell.

Bunce is a weekend courtesy cart driver volunteer and provides transportation to and from patient’s and visitor’s vehicles while onsite.

“I love what I do and I have always enjoyed meeting new people, so this role allows me to interact with people who come by the hospital,” said Bunce. “The kids always get a kick when I tell them my age and how I love using the Internet.”
Bunce credits his great health to his wife of 40 years, Maryland Bunce, and their longtime marriage that has kept him on his toes. George met Maryland in a hospital in Eugene, Ore. where he first began his volunteering after being in commercial banking for more than 45 years.

Bunce also says his health is in tip-top shape thanks to living an active lifestyle with lots of dancing. His passion for ballroom and clogging dancing has made him reach this remarkable milestone. Bunce is also a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran that has been honored with a purple heart.

For more than 40 years, volunteers with Banner Boswell have been making a difference by sharing their time and assisting countless patients and families through their spirit of generosity. Sun City, the home of Banner Boswell, is also recognized as the “City of Volunteers.”
