Laser Spine Institute, the leader in minimally invasive spine surgery, is proud to announce that Michael C. Weiss, D.O., FAOAO has been given the new title of Chairman, Department of Surgery. Previously, Dr. Weiss served as chief spine surgeon of Laser Spine Institute for two years before being named Chairman of Surgery in 2011.

In this role, Dr. Weiss will continue to lead the surgical sector of Laser Spine Institute’s four state-of-the-art surgery centers in Tampa, Fla., Scottsdale, Philadelphia and Oklahoma City. While continuing to perform surgery, he also oversees the proprietary fellowship training program for new surgeons and surgical practices. In addition, Dr. Weiss has been instrumental in the launch of RegenaDISC®, a new innovative spinal disc regeneration procedure that uses stem cell tissue transplantation to treat the root causes of back pain. The procedure, performed at the Laser Spine Institute’s Scottsdale facility has been years in development and involves extracting adult stems cells from the patient and transferring them to the affected discs to facilitate pain reduction and tissue regeneration.

Dr. Weiss began his career as an orthopedic surgeon in 1986, after receiving his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He then went on to complete his internship and residency at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital in Michigan, where he was appointed chief resident in 1991. Dr. Weiss is board certified in orthopedic surgery by The American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is the Spine Section President. He is also a member of the North American Spine Society and currently serves on the GE Healthcare Pain Management Medical Advisory Board.
