Phoenix Children’s Hospital has appointed medical directors for inpatient services provided at TMC for Children. Kevin Carter, MD, leads the pediatric hospitalist program, and Heather Hanley, MD, leads the pediatric intensive care unit.
Dr. Carter, a board certified pediatric hospitalist, joined the Phoenix Children’s team in May. He brings experience and expertise gained while working for the hospitalist division at Levine Children’s Hospital from 2012-2015, serving as the associate director for two years. Dr. Carter earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Brigham Young University and his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his pediatric residency at Carolinas Medical Center, where he served as chief resident.
Dr. Hanley, a board certified pediatric intensivist, joined the Phoenix Children’s team in July. She brings a proven commitment to family centered care and experience working in a variety of community hospital pediatric intensive care units, most recently at Providence Tarzana Medical Center. Dr. Hanley completed her undergraduate degree at the University of San Diego and earned her medical degree at Loma Linda University. She completed her pediatric residency and critical care fellowship at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital in 2013.
Dr. Hanley and Dr. Carter are based in Pima County and call TMC for Children their Tucson hospital home. They also will coordinate care with Tucson general pediatricians and pediatric specialists and assist in augmenting specialty services where gaps might exist in Tucson so families can access a broader spectrum of pediatric services closer to home and without having to travel to Phoenix.
“We are extremely pleased with the leadership that both Dr. Carter and Dr. Hanley bring to TMC for Children. Already their efforts on the clinical side to standardize care and implement family-centered team rounding have made them great assets to our inpatient units and the children and families of Southern Arizona,” said Dr. Anderson, Chief Medical Officer at Tucson Medical Center.
Earlier this year, TMC for Children partnered with Phoenix Children’s Hospital, one of the 10 largest children’s hospitals in the country, for inpatient pediatric hospitalist and intensive care services.
