The Southern Arizona Chapter of the Arizona Women Lawyers Association awarded Megan E. Miller with the 2013 Alice Truman Leadership Award.

Miller is currently Vice President and General Counsel for Long Realty Company, a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate.

Despite having not received her undergraduate education in Arizona (Megan initially attended Barnard College, received her B.A. from Smith College and then her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School) or maybe in part because of it, Megan has been an active and dedicated member of AWLA, mentoring countless women lawyers since the late 1980s when she moved to Arizona.

Megan served on the Southern Arizona Steering Committee for close to twenty years (1992-2010). She held the position as Southern Arizona President from 1994-95. In addition, Megan has represented AWLA at the State level for the past twelve years, first as a member of the AWLA Board from 2000-2010, and since 2011 as a Board member of the AWLA Foundation. She served as State AWLA President from 2000-01.

Megan is, and has always been, active in her alma mater, serving as President of the Smith College Club of Tucson from 2008-2010, again seeking out and encouraging young women to fulfill their dreams.

Throughout her involvement with AWLA, Megan has demonstrated unparalleled support and encouragement for the advancement of women in the legal profession. Megan actively recruited and encouraged women to apply for judgeships. You would be hard-pressed to find a woman who has become a judge in Southern Arizona since she has been involved in AWLA, who was not counseled and shepherded through the judicial appointments process by Megan.

Megan’s six-year term on Appointments Committee of the State Bar of Arizona (2005-2011) similarly motivated her to seek out and encourage qualified women lawyers to serve on a wide-variety of State Bar committees. AWLA would not be the organization it is today without Megan’s tireless efforts on its behalf.
