Lyndel Manson, chair, Arizona Board of Regents

BACKGROUND: Lyndel Manson is chair of the Arizona Board of Regents. Prior positions include board president of Northland Preparatory Academy, president of the Forest Highlands Association and chair of the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation. She holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Middlebury College.

SOURCE OF PRIDE: “I am most proud of the recent changes the Board of Regents has made to the general education programs of our three state universities to require coursework in civic education and civil discourse. I think this will have an incredible impact on our future leaders’ ability to understand how to communicate and make positive and uniting progress in our nation.”

SURPRISING FACT: “Well, given that I have lived in Arizona for 35 years, I think people would be surprised to find that I grew up ski racing and actually attended a racing academy in Vermont for part of my senior year in high school.”

SOURCE OF INSPIRATION: “Sandra Day O’Connor was one of the most inspirational women leaders of our time. She was humble and brilliant and remained dedicated to her family even as her jobs became increasingly important and demanding.”
