Today’s spotlight: Mary Fedewa
President and CEO
Fedewa co-founded STORE Capital in 2011, has served as a member of its board of directors since 2016, was named chief operating officer in 2017, and currently serves as president and CEO. She has played a key role in the company’s portfolio growth to nearly $10 billion in assets while leading all areas of operations, including acquisitions, servicing, portfolio management, information technology and real estate closing.
Lesson learned in 2020: “One of the key takeaways from our experiences during the pandemic is the importance of developing a stronger sense of mental health awareness, stress management, emotional intelligence, and overall well-being. As a leader, I recognize the need to set an example and encourage my employees to prioritize their health and wellness so they can contribute positively to both their personal and professional lives. Going forward we will look to foster our goals and organizational success supported by a culture that encourages flexibility, work-life balance and understanding.”
Source of pride: “Being part of the team that founded STORE Capital, laying the foundation for our business model, and building our team are the professional accomplishments I am most proud of. When we first started the company, I had the opportunity to build our team and establish our direct acquisition model which continues to provide us with a distinct strategic advantage. We attribute much of our success in weathering the COVID storm to our direct customer relationships. Today, STORE has a $10 billion real-estate portfolio and a team of more than 100 outstanding and talented professionals. As we continue to serve our large market of national and regional customers in vital industries and deliver industry-leading returns to our shareholders, I am looking forward to cultivating STORE’s next generation of leaders.”
Surprising fact: “Exercise and healthy living have always been priorities for me. I try to make time for physical activity and meditation nearly every day. I have always been inspired by others who fully commit to wellness, and I use it to be a better leader and foster a healthy mindset that manifests into the mental focus and clarity I need to be able to innovate, create and relate. I use meditative practices to better myself and contribute positively to all aspects of my life.”
