Here are the Top 10 animal parks in Arizona, as featured in the 2020 edition of Ranking Arizona:
Background: The Arizona Center for Nature Conservation/Phoenix Zoo is one of the largest nonprofit zoos in the country. With more than 125 acres of natural habitats within beautiful Papago Park and more than 3,000 animals, including many endangered or threatened species, the zoo is a “must-see experience.” With daily up-close animal discoveries, behind-the-scenes encounters with amazing animals such as elephants; flamingo chicks; the resident sloth, Fernando; stingrays; and more, there is something exciting for everyone to enjoy at the zoo. The zoo hosts more than 1.3 million visitors each year and has been a Valley treasure for nearly 60 years.
Strengths: “The Zoo not only offers a place for our guests to get up close to and be inspired by thousands of animals, but offers an opportunity for people to make connections; whether it is with their family member, friends, coworkers, an animal, or even another Zoo guest. Connections and memories are made daily at the Zoo, and we love to see the joy on the faces of those who visit.”
