Scottsdale-based Massage Envy Spa, the pioneer and national leader of professional, convenient and affordable massage and spa services, announced today it has opened its 1,000th location in Exton, Pa. This milestone comes on the heels of significant growth for the 12-year-old brand, including reaching $1 billion in system-wide sales at the end of 2013.

Contributing to Massage Envy Spa’s success, the company recently expanded into Alaska, Montana and West Virginia, providing a pathway to wellness in 49 states across the country. Additionally, Massage Envy Spa has opened 59 new clinics, signed 33 new franchise agreements and is on track to open 112 locations by year-end.

“The last few years have been incredible in terms of growth for Massage Envy Spa,” said Joe Luongo, chief operating officer, Massage Envy Spa. “Our continued success is a direct result of the passion our franchisees, regional developers and team members bring to our clinics every day across the United States. We look forward to providing the residents of Exton with an unparalleled spa experience as we celebrate our 1,000th clinic milestone with them.”

A grand opening event and ribbon-cutting ceremony is being held today at Massage Envy Spa’s 1,000th clinic in Exton between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Guests can choose from a variety of massage treatments, including Swedish, Trigger Point, Deep Tissue, Sports, Prenatal, Hot Stone Envy® and Geriatric. Other services, such as Aroma Therapy, Sugar Foot Scrub Therapy and Deep Muscle Therapy, can be added to any massage to enhance the experience. Additionally, the Massage Envy Spa Exton offers four different Murad® Healthy Skin facials designed by Dr. Murad, the leader in skincare science. The Massage Envy Spa Exton clinic features 12 treatment rooms across nearly 4,000 square feet.

Following the Exton clinic opening, Massage Envy Spa is now considered one of the largest franchise systems in the country. According to FRANdata, the franchise industry’s source for objective information and analysis, only 2.4 percent of franchised brands operate 1,000 or more units. Massage Envy Spa is also the world’s largest employer of licensed/registered massage therapists with more than 21,000 therapists and 3,000 estheticians providing 1.5 million services every month to more than 1.5 million members.

Over the next several years, Massage Envy Spa is seeking to expand across the country. Territories are still available in Cheyenne, Wyo.; Tuscaloosa, Ala.; Southern Los Angeles County, Calif.; Des Moines, Iowa; Manhattan, N.Y.; Little Rock, Ark.; Lansing, Mich.; and Oklahoma City, Okla.; as well as other major markets from coast-to-coast.

To fuel this growth, the company is looking for specific franchisee candidates who have the ability and the desire to learn and follow a system that ensures value and customer satisfaction. Qualified franchisee candidates should have business sales or management experience, but do not necessarily need to have a massage therapy or spa operations background. They also should possess a minimum net worth of $500,000 and liquid assets of at least $150,000. Depending on the real estate, Massage Envy Spa franchisees can expect their initial investment to range from approximately $412,600 – $938,900, including the franchise fee.
