Six40rty, an original new restaurant, sports bar and nightlife experience by Ascend Hospitality Group (AHG), announced its planned opening on Mill Ave. on September 28. This is AHG’s second concept in Arizona — co-created by its former Director of Marketing & Brand Design Shelby Elmore, and Tempe Managing Partner Thomas Lawson — following the opening of Anoche Cantina in Tempe last month. Six40rty will be located directly next door to Anoche and is named for its address at 640 Mill Ave.

“As the second Tempe concept for Ascend Hospitality Group, we knew we had to elevate the basic sports bar model,” said Elaina Morris, CEO and President of Ascend Hospitality Group. “We are committed to bringing the ‘AHG Difference’ to all our concepts, which, for Six40rty, means we created a one-of-a-kind, rooftop bar experience, but from the street level of Mill Ave. and sprawling across an expansive indoor/outdoor patio. We are thrilled to bring Six40rty to the Valley.”

Six40rty will encompass 10,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor space, featuring more than 70 televisions and a best-in-class lighting and sound system for the ultimate sports viewing and nightlife experience. Its Instagrammable menu items will include elevated bar snacks, like loaded totchos, slider stacks and vibrant bowls, with trendy drink offerings like Ranch Water, large format seltzer cocktails, and more than 30 beers on draft. The venue’s massive patio will be adorned with custom street murals, grass turf, multiple outdoor bars and a large selection of lawn games including Pop-A-Shot, boxing, corn hole, ping pong, Jenga Giant and more. It also will be one of the first local bars to offer an extremely popular new game called SubSoccer, where players compete underneath the table to score a goal while they are seated eating, drinking and watching sports.

“With Six40rty, we wanted to create the premier place on Mill for people to come hang out, watch the Sun Devils, Cardinals, and all their favorite teams, and get together to have fun, play games, eat, and drink in a one-of-kind setting,” said Thomas Lawson, managing partner for the venue and Anoche Cantina. “As someone who went to ASU and was a part of some very popular concepts in Tempe, I know firsthand what an incredible culture and history there is here. We are looking forward to bringing back that level of anticipation and helping shape this exciting next chapter.”

After dark, Six40rty will transform into an ambiance-heavy nightlife experience, complete with live DJs, bottle service and over-the-top presentations.
