As of August 28, 2024, the world of Arizona pickleball has achieved national fame as the 6-episode docuseries called “Breaking Pickleball” (which initially debuted via private release on YouTube) has now become available on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform.

Following the competition that resulted in the first season of the Arizona Pickleball League™, “Breaking Pickleball” follows five teams – The Scottsdale Scorchers, Gilbert Gladiators, Peoria Pythons, Tempe Tornadoes, and Surprise Stingers – over the course of 10 weeks until only four move on to the play-offs to find out who will be the last remaining team to win the Orchard Championship Cup.
“This isn’t a documentary about the evolution of pickleball; it’s a touching story of people striving to be the best – pickleball is just the medium for the story,” said Ashley Leroux, co-founder of the Arizona Pickleball League and Executive Producer of “Breaking Pickleball.”
Similar in style to other sports docu-series, such as Ryan Reynolds’ and Rob McElhenney’s “Welcome to Wrexham,” “Breaking Pickleball” introduces the pro pickleball players on each team as the competition progresses over the course of the season, which takes place at the indoor pickleball venue The Orchard at Jigsaw Health in Scottsdale, Arizona.
“We knew we were on to something when the matches that we were live streaming were getting 10,000 people around the globe to tune in,” said Patrick Sullivan Jr., co-founder of the Arizona Pickleball League and the indoor pickleball court The Orchard at Jigsaw Health. “Rubber chickens, glow sticks and pyrotechnics are not something you normally see in your standard pickleball matches…viewers will quickly learn the Arizona Pickleball League is on a level of its own.”
