Special Olympics Arizona (SOAZ) takes fundraising for its athletes to new heights with its annual Over the Edge event, bringing together more than 200 brave individuals to rappel down 27 stories at CityScape Phoenix on Saturday, December 8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sponsors CityScape Phoenix and RED Development host the event at its offices, where thrill-seeking individuals will experience Phoenix from new heights while supporting SOAZ. The significance behind this exclusive event is to give participants a sense of how courageous individuals with intellectual disabilities are, as they are constantly overcoming obstacles each day.

“Through unique fundraising efforts like Over the Edge, we are able to bring the community together while increasing funds and awareness for our athletes,” said Special Olympics Arizona CEO Jamie Heckerman. “We look forward to seeing both returning and new participants at this year’s event, showing their great support for our athletes through courageous rappelling.”

With a fundraising goal of $1,000 per participant, each individual will be able to support two Special Olympics Arizona Athletes throughout 2019. This year’s event will raise funds for more than 380 local Arizona athletes with the help from more than 200 bold rappellers.

“We are honored that our building is the platform for this inspiring event year after year,” RED Development Vice President of Development JeffMoloznik said. “Our team is always thrilled to witness first-hand the impact that Over the Edge has on Special Olympics Arizona athletes and event participants alike.”

In addition to the remarkable rappelling, SOAZ will be hosting a street festival on 1st Street in Downtown Phoenix called “Edgers Fest.” The festival will be equipped with fun activities such as a photo booth and live music that includes individuals with intellectual disabilities.

This event would not be possible without the support of our generous sponsors: RED Development, CityScape Phoenix, Sanderson Ford, Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), Whiting-Turner and Hastings & Hastings.
