Locally owned and operated Angry Crab Shack, a restaurant specializing in seafood and boils with Asian and Cajun flavors, announced it’s adding more locations to the Metro-Phoenix culinary scene. The company’s incredibly infectious concept is adding another location that will open later this year in Surprise, and has its sight set on the future with opening two to three more locations in 2020.

The newest location in Yuma opened early August and is located at 1530 S. Castle Dome Ave. It’s one of the largest in the franchise with about 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space. The company has quickly flourished with 10 Arizona locations, including eight in the Metro-Phoenix area, Tucson and Yuma.

“We have received such great feedback from the community about our concept,” said Ron Lou, founder of Angry Crab Shack. “We are excited to continue expanding our unique dining experience that we offer to more and more people.”

Angry Crab Shack is evolving as a national franchise brand and aims to open 100 locations across the country by 2023. The company recently signed its first multi-unit franchise agreement for three locations in Atlanta, breaking into the Georgia market. The first restaurant is on pace to open before the end of 2019 with the second and third planned for 2020 and 2021. In addition, 10 locations are projected to open in Atlanta over the next five years.

Its concept fills a niche in the industry by offering high-quality, affordable seafood, and its unique real estate strategy. When scouting for future stores, ownerships looks for second-and third-generation restaurants that are functional with the essentials in up-and-coming neighborhoods.

“Angry Crab Shack has every component that makes a concept successful, and we believe it can be scaled to succeed in any national market,” said Andrew Diamond, president and CFO of Angry Crab Shack.

Founder, Ron Lou, is a first-generation immigrant and the first Asian-American NFL player to be drafted in 1973. Who has a passion for entrepreneurship, and has built six restaurant concepts and has more than 40 years of experience in the industry. Angry Crab Shack is a fusion of Asian and Cajun flavors, sourcing lobster from the East Coast, Dungeness Crab from the Pacific Northwest, King and Snow Crab from Alaska, and crawfish from the Gulf of Mexico. It may sound pricey with the best-of-the-best seafood, but it is a very affordable family friendly restaurant. Angry Crab Shack is an interactive, all hands-on deck dining experience. The butcher paper covered tables are the plates and your hands are the utensils.

One of the company’s core values is giving back to the community. It has been partners with Phoenix Children’s Hospital since 2017 and has donated more than $100,000. Angry Crab Shack donates $1 from all orders of its Phoenix Children’s Fries and root beer floats sold to the hospital. Over three years Angry Crab Shack’s partnership with Arizona Housing Coalition’s You Dine, We Donate program has raised more than $87,500 for homeless veterans and their families.
