Locally owned and operated Angry Crab Shack, a restaurant specializing in seafood and boils with Asian and Cajun flavors, announced it’s adding more locations to the Metro-Phoenix culinary scene. The company’s incredibly infectious concept is adding another location that will open later this year in Surprise, and has its sight set on the future with opening two to three more locations in 2020.
The newest location in Yuma opened early August and is located at 1530 S. Castle Dome Ave. It’s one of the largest in the franchise with about 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space. The company has quickly flourished with 10 Arizona locations, including eight in the Metro-Phoenix area, Tucson and Yuma.
“We have received such great feedback from the community about our concept,” said Ron Lou, founder of Angry Crab Shack. “We are excited to continue expanding our unique dining experience that we offer to more and more people.”
Angry Crab Shack is evolving as a national franchise brand and aims to open 100 locations across the country by 2023. The company recently signed its first multi-unit franchise agreement for three locations in Atlanta, breaking into the Georgia market. The first restaurant is on pace to open before the end of 2019 with the second and third planned for 2020 and 2021. In addition, 10 locations are projected to open in Atlanta over the next five years.
Its concept fills a niche in the industry by offering high-quality, affordable seafood, and its unique real estate strategy. When scouting for future stores, ownerships looks for second-and third-generation restaurants that are functional with the essentials in up-and-coming neighborhoods.
“Angry Crab Shack has every component that makes a concept successful, and we believe it can be scaled to succeed in any national market,” said Andrew Diamond, president and CFO of Angry Crab Shack.
Founder, Ron Lou, is a first-generation immigrant and the first Asian-American NFL player to be drafted in 1973.
