Gust Rosenfeld adds experienced public law attorney

Gust Rosenfeld announced that John C. (Jack) Shafer, III, has joined the firm’s Public Law Group. Jack enhances Gust Rosenfeld’s depth in the area of municipal tax. 

Jack focuses his practice on tax and public finance. With over ten years of experience working as an Assistant City Attorney for three large Phoenix-area cities, he has broad bond, tax, city regulatory licensing, procurement, budget, franchise, and other municipal finance experience.

Jack also has experience drafting contracts, legislation, city codes and ordinances. He is a member of an ad hoc team formed to represent the interests of all 91 Arizona municipalities in revising an intergovernmental agreement with the Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR).

Quarles & Brady announces managing partner transition

The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP has announced that Michael Aldana has been appointed as the firm’s managing partner, effective October 1, 2018. Daniel Radler, who currently serves in that position, is retiring from Quarles & Brady. 

Aldana will be the third managing partner in the firm’s history and his new responsibilities will include operational leadership for the eleven-office, AmLaw 200 firm including strategic growth initiatives following the firm’s recent opening of a Minneapolis office. He has been with Quarles & Brady for over 20 years and is a partner in its Labor & Employment Group representing a broad range of employers in all facets of labor and employment law.

Spencer Fane adds Anderson to Business Transactions Group

Spencer Fane announced the addition of Andy Anderson to the firm’s Phoenix office as Of Counsel in the Business Transactions practice group.

As part of the growing Spencer Fane team in Arizona, Anderson’s practice focuses on leading clients from negotiation to closing in corporate and mergers and acquisitions transactions. He regularly provides counsel on issues associated with limited liability and partnership law and currently serves on a State Bar of Arizona subcommittee that drafted the Arizona Limited Liability Company Act.

Anderson assists companies with commercial transactions in the technology, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, construction and real estate industries. His real estate experience includes negotiation of a manufacturing joint venture, purchase of a hospitality business and the sale of a retail business that included associated franchising and leasing agreements.

Banner – University Medicine adds staff

Several primary care providers and physician subspecialists are now available to see patients at the Banner – University Medicine physician offices at 1141 S. La Canada Drive in Green Valley. Banner welcomed:

• Jeffrey Maudlin, MD , Primary care physician and University of Arizona clinical assistant professor of Family Medicine

Dr. Maudlin has joined the Green Valley office fulltime. He is a graduate of the UA College of Medicine – Tucson and completed his residency in family practice at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice and has served as the Chief of Staff at the El Rio Neighborhood Community Health Center and Carondelet Holy Cross Hospital in Nogales.

As a Family Medicine physician, Dr. Maudlin takes a strong interest in treating the entire family, from newborns to seniors. In November he will be joined by Family Medicine nurse practitioner Patricia Estep, CFNP.

In addition, the following physician specialists, based at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson, will make regular visits to the Green Valley clinic for the convenience of Southern Arizona residents:

• Kapil Lotun, MD, Cardiologist and UA professor of Medicine

Dr. Lotun is director of the Structural Heart Disease Program and Vascular Medicine at Banner – UMC Tucson and also is director of the hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab.

He specializes in all aspects of heart care, interventional cardiology, vascular medicine and valvular disease.

• Ranjith Shetty, MD , Cardiologist and UA assistant professor of Medicine

Dr. Shetty is associate director of the Structural Heart Disease Program and the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Program.

He specializes in hypertension, preventive cardiology, valvular disease, women’s cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, peripheral vascular disease and vascular medicine.

•  Craig Weinkauf, MD, PhD, Vascular surgeon and UA assistant professor of Surgery

Dr. Weinkauf treats patients with vascular disease, such as aortic aneurysms, carotid artery stenosis, peripheral arterial disease and venous and lymphatic disease.

His research interests include identifying markers for stroke risk associated carotid artery disease and the use of advanced imaging to diagnose and better understand vascular disease in the brain, abdomen and legs.

Drs. Lotun, Shetty and Weinkauf are all members of the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center.

•  David Tzou, MD, Urologist and UA assistant professor of Surgery

Dr. Tzou specializes in endourology and robot-assisted surgery, offering minimally invasive techniques to treat complex urinary disorders.

He also provides the latest treatments for general urinary problems, kidney stones, and prostate and kidney cancer.

• • Allison Rottman, DPM and Vlad Sauciuc, DPM, Podiatrists and UA clinical assistant professors of Surgery

Dr. Rottman specializes in limb salvage, wound care and foot and ankle surgery.

Dr. Sauciuc specializes in foot and ankle surgery and reconstructive surgery.
