Lighting plays an integral role in creating a stylish and functional workspace. While designing our office, I planned to have workspaces near the large windows. The windows have glass partitions, which ensure a satisfying inflow of natural light.
However, there were many places where natural light couldn’t reach. I started using blue-enriched artificial lights for those areas. These lights resemble natural daylight and make it convenient to work.
Proper lighting enhances the ambiance of the workspace, makes it look more spacious, stimulates our energy, improves our mood, and supports mental acuity. Everyone can focus more on their work and become more productive. It also helps to have a satisfying work-life.
Implement Divider Screens for Home Offices
My best tip for inexpensive but functional office spaces in small homes is the clever use of a divider screen. There are really beautiful bamboo ones, some with laser-cut detailing, almost like lace; there are metal ones; there are fabric ones—the options are generous, and they can fit your existing space, whatever it looks like.
This should allow you to create an office space within your living room, for example, but still keep both spaces separate and functional in their own right. It doesn’t allow for perfect privacy—if you have a call or something, you’ll probably still need alone time—but it’s great for creating the sense of separate spaces.
You need that at the end of the day, to be able to step away from the “office” and unwind in your home. It also helps in the morning, when stepping behind the divider means you’re stepping into your work persona.
Incorporate Branded Functional Art
Branded Functional Art is an innovative and reasonably priced design approach that I have used. Convert practical office furniture, such as room dividers or storage cabinets, into works of branded art. Organize for a Clean Aesthetic
Being neat helps and doesn’t cost a thing in improving my office space. Simply decluttering and being organized changes how my office looks a lot. It’s incredible how fast a clean office can become a mess.
At our office, we don’t let people eat at their desks, which keeps trash where it belongs and stops crumbs from getting on the floor. We also say no to trash cans at desks, which stops trash from building up there and makes people recycle more.
And those messy cords? They’re a big deal too, so whenever I look at my computer area and see a mess of dusty, tangled cables, cords, wires, and plugs, I make sure to give time to tidy them up.
I use those plastic tags from bread bags to label each cord, wrap them with Velcro strips, and run the cords along the back of the desk with eye hooks or clips. This way, I keep my place organized, which reduces clutter that can be a source of distraction.
