With remote work here to stay, square footage can be a deal breaker for today’s homebuyers. But some places offer substantially more bang for your buck, especially as lot sizes are shrinking across the US. If you’re seeking to live large, Mesa might just be the right place to move to if you’re looking for the biggest home and lot size for your buck.

DEEPER DIVE: Here are the Arizona cities with highest share of $1 million homes for sale

According to our latest study of lot and home sizes, Mesa claims the 12th spot among the best cities in the country for spacious living, with a great combination of home and lot size plus a good price-to-income ratio and excellent connectivity to nearby cities. Tucson was the next highest-ranked Arizona city on the list, coming in at No. 15. Phoenix ranked 25th.

Here are some interesting findings from the study:

  • With a median home size of 1,790 square feet, Mesa residents have plenty of room to fit in a home office, kids’ playroom, gym or any other space to cater to their lifestyle preferences.
  • Despite a 14% decrease in the median lot size for new homes in the last decade, Mesa’s homeowners may still enjoy a spacious outdoor living area. The median lot size of a Mesa home is 7,850 square feet, three times the lot size of a home in Virginia Beach, VA, for example.
  • Mesa’s houses have experienced significant growth over the last decade, boasting a generous 2,294 square feet of living space, which is 28% larger than the city’s median home size.
