Cinco de Mayo is popular for many people throughout the United States. It’s a holiday dedicated to Mexico’s triumph over French forces, a day of celebration. Here is a variety of ways you can celebrate this May 5.

Cinco de Mayo Phoenix Festival

This festival is the largest in all of Phoenix. They have held this celebration for 26 years and attract over 3 million attendees. There will be lucha libre (wrestling), baile folklorico (Mexican dancing) and lots of food to choose from. The music will include the Grammy nominated War playing their songs “Lowrider” and “The Cisco Kid.” General Admissions tickets are $10. Doors open at noon.

Sandbar Mexican Grill

This restaurant is counting down to Cinco de Mayo on their website. That’s how excited they are for you to come out for their celebration. They have three locations to choose from: Desert Ridge, Chandler and Gilbert. This colorful food venue brings the beach scene to Arizona. You can play a variety of games and try to beat your friends!

Sol Mexican Cocina

There will be live music at this restaurant on May 4 and 5. However, the drinks and taco specials only apply to the holiday itself. This restaurant has such a large selection of margaritas, with flavors like cucumber jalapeno or blackberry ginger, and specialty cocktails, like their pineapple and vanilla infused tequila available as a martini or shot – there’s something for everyone! Reservations are recommended.

Cinco de Mayo and Chili Cook Off

Sedona’s Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village will be hosting a multitude of events on May 4. The celebration consists of flamenco dancing, Latin music and a performance by a folklorico dance troupe. For kids, there will be pinatas and face painting. These festivities are free and run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Chili Cook Off includes chefs from all over the Verde Valley from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The admissions for the cook off are $15.

Hotel Congress Cinco de Mayo party

The evening will be filled with live music from Santa Pachita. There will be legendary agave spirits, such as their specialties Milagro and El Silencio. The evening starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 2 a.m. The first 100 people get to enjoy their happy hour until 8 p.m. Admission is $5.

Cinco de Mayo at the Rhythm Room

Mario Moreno and the Black and Tans, Al Foul Trio will be performing at the Rhythm Room. The event is $5 for admission. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Old Town Scottsdale’s Cinco de Mayo Bar Crawl

Spend the holiday drinking at Old Town Scottsdale’s finest including El Hefe, Goodwood Tavern, Riot House and Wasted Grain. There will be deals with Lyft and GrubHub accompanying the event. Post your photos on Facebook or Instagram to win a prize. This event takes place the day before Cinco de Mayo on May 4.

Cinco de Mayo Cornhole Tournament

The Cerveza Dos Equis Beer Garden will be hosting a round robin cornhole tournament. Get your team of four and try your luck for the crown. Alongside the tournament, there will be music, drinks and a football game. The event is 21 and over.

Release Opening Weekend Featuring Zedd

Zedd, a multi-platinum Grammy award-winning artist and DJ and producer, will be performing at this pool party twist on a music festival at Talking Stick Resort. If you want to kick off the holiday early, you can also see Deorro on May 4. What better way to keep cool as the summer becomes even hotter?

Dos Gringos

There will be live bands and DJs all weekend to get you in the festive spirit. They have been voted No. 1 party in the Valley multiple years in a row. On the day of May 5, you can enjoy delicious food, cold beer and fun music until 2 a.m. because the party doesn’t stop just because it’s midnight.
