Construction is nearly complete for a $9 million expansion project adding a second Interventional Radiology suite and new space for the hospital pharmacy at Abrazo West Campus. The IR suite increases access to state-of-the-art capabilities for minimally invasive procedures, and the hospital’s pharmacy expansion brings capacity for more specialized therapeutics.

Interventional radiology uses image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions in nearly every organ system. Physicians will be able to use the new Interventional Radiology suite for procedures such as biopsies, angiography, angioplasty, and vascular stents, for example.

“The new Interventional Radiology suite will increase capacity for both emergent and scheduled procedures. Some of the more common conditions that are treated by our team of interventional radiologists include things like deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, varicose veins, peripheral arterial disease and liver disease,” said Abrazo West Campus CEO Hans Driessnack.

The addition is expected to be complete in late September and will provide multiple benefits for the community, said Driessnack. “With the addition of this advanced IR lab, our stroke program will have more capacity to provide interventional neurological procedures, including mechanical thrombectomies which removes clots in the brain of acute ischemic stroke patients. Our community will also have greater access to life-saving procedures and technologies at their trusted hospital”

Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo took a tour of the new Interventional Radiology suite and Pharmacy expansion at Abrazo West Campus and was impressed by the hospital’s ongoing facility improvements.

“Abrazo has invested millions into expansion and upgrades at the facility over the past year to offer leading-edge technology and services. We are delighted by their investment in the care of our region’s residents,” said Pizzillo.

Abrazo West Campus serves the southwest valley and beyond. The 216-bed Level I Trauma Center and thrombectomy capable Primary Plus Stroke Center is located at 13677 W. McDowell Rd.

“We are also enhancing our cardiovascular surgery, spine surgery and neurosciences capabilities. With nearly $30M in capital projects and equipment coming online in the last 12 months, it’s an exciting time for our hospital to increase access to high quality, specialty care for our community,” said Driessnack.
