The Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) announced its much-anticipated annual golf tournament, the 1972 Groovy Golf Tournament, taking place on March 29, 2024.

Ranking Arizona: Top 10 public golf courses

Embracing the vibrant spirit of the 1970s, this year’s tournament promises an unforgettable day of golf, camaraderie, and community engagement. The event will be held at The Legacy Golf Club in Phoenix, a picturesque setting that provides the perfect backdrop for a day filled with fun and friendly competition. Golfers are encouraged to embrace the theme and dress accordingly. The event will feature contests at various holes, a 50/50 raffle, and an array of fabulous prizes.

Teams of four can purchase tickets for $1,400, with single-player tickets available for $375/person. Those who prefer to enjoy the festivities without hitting the greens can purchase a ticket to the lunch reception for $50/person.

Attending the luncheon provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate the winners, participate in the raffle, and connect with fellow community members.

This year’s tournament holds special significance as we honor long-time member Sheila Smith. Born in 1972, Sheila has been a dedicated member of AAED, serving in leadership positions on our Golf and Cornhole planning committees and as an active participant in the Membership Engagement Committee. In 2023, Sheila was diagnosed with brain cancer, and this event is dedicated to supporting her and her family. Proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will be donated to the Smith family, contributing to their medical expenses, and offering a helping hand during a difficult journey.

Join AAED on March 29 for a day of golf and camaraderie and to celebrate Sheila. For AAED golf tournament sponsorship inquiries and registration, please get in touch with Braxton Hynes at braxton@aaed.com or (602) 240-2233 ext. 2.
