Arizona No. 8 for states with fastest drops in unemployment claims
Though April’s jobs report only showed 266,000 jobs gained compared to the 1 million expected, new unemployment claims decreased week-over-week on May 10, and were 93% below the peak during the COVID-19 pandemic. To help add some context to these statistics, WalletHub just released updated rankings for the States Whose Unemployment Claims Are Recovering the Quickest, and Arizona is one of the states whose unemployment claims are recovering quickest.
• Surprisingly, two states (West Virginia and Rhode Island) had unemployment claims last week that were worse than the same week last year.
• Vermont had unemployment claims last week that were lower than before the pandemic.
