The state’s first and largest no-kill shelter is waiving adoption fees during Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days, on May 31 and June 1.

Adopters will leave with the peace of mind offered by a one-of-a-kind guarantee: Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA’s “Best Buddy” Worry Free Adoption Guarantee. The Best Buddy program provides extra help to adopters during the first 30 days and lifetime support with low-cost veterinary services, classes and more.

Every adoption from AAWL saves the lives of two pets.

Adoptions during this event will make room for AAWL & SPCA to rescue more animals from open-intake shelters, such as the county shelter, where they are at risk of being euthanized. The Valley has the second-highest pet overpopulation problem in the country, and about half of the approximately 90,000 animals that enter open-intake shelters in the Valley every year are killed, even though many could be adopted.

All animals adopted from AAWL & SPCA will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date with vaccinations.

As part of AAWL & SPCA’s adoption guarantee, each adopter will receive free pet health insurance for 30 days and free medical and behavior helplines for the first 30 days after the adoption. If a medical issue is identified, AAWL has a low-cost clinic that works with the adopter and the pet to solve the problem. If it is a behavior issue, the behavior experts at AAWL give advice, or they may recommend one of the many training classes offered by the organization. After the  first 30 days, affordable veterinary services help adopters for the lifetime of the pet. And, if necessary, AAWL & SPCA will take the adopted pet back at any time during its life.

The Maddie’s Adoption Days event is financed and organized by Maddie’s Fund, a family foundation inspired by a Miniature Schnauzer named Maddie, which supports a no-kill alternative to pet overpopulation. Organizers of the nationwide event expect to find homes for a record-breaking number of animals in two days. The fund will award money to participating shelters for each pet adopted during the event.

AAWL & SPCA will use the money to care for more animals that it rescues, including providing any veterinary care needed by treatable animals and to foster the large number of homeless kittens born during this time of year.
