The Organization for Nonprofit Executives (ONE), which develops Arizona nonprofit leaders through education, recognition, support, networking and professional growth opportunities, is now a program of the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits.
Michael Barry, who had served as ONE’s executive director, will continue managing ONE programming and also will handle responsibilities as the Alliance’s new Director of Capacity Building.
“There is tremendous synergy between the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and the Organization for Nonprofit Executives. This collaborative effort adds another dimension to our ability to serve the nonprofit community by continuing its mission to educate and prepare nonprofit executives for the challenges of leading the sector,” said Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits Chief Executive Office Kristen Merrifield.
Kelly McCullough, who chairs the Alliance board of directors, said that “bringing ONE under the Alliance umbrella offers both strategic opportunities and enhanced benefits for our members and creates significant efficiencies. It also underscores our belief that permanent supportive collaborations like this one pay tremendously diverse dividends both financially and in practical application.”
Torrie Taj, Chief Executive Officer at Child Crisis Arizona and a member of the ONE board of directors, which will disband with the movement of ONE to the Alliance, said that, in addition to the synergies between the two organizations, “our missions were in alignment and complemented each other. I believe this merger is a win-win for both membership nonprofits and I look forward to watching ONE programs continue to thrive under Kristen’s leadership at the Alliance.”
Merrifield said that ONE programming already in place for 2019 and 2020 “will continue as scheduled so we can fully honor dues already paid in 2019.”
As Director of Capacity Building for the Alliance, Barry will be responsible for developing and managing existing and new Alliance educational programs, trainings, events and capacity building resources throughout the state.
“We are thrilled to have Michael join the Alliance management team and to remain a critical driver of the Organization for Nonprofit Executives,” Merrifield said. “Under his leadership, ONE made tremendous strides in achieving its mission.”
He was named Executive Director at ONE in March 2018 after working as Director of Business Development for Experience Matters. Previously, he had been an Experience Matters Encore Fellow and consultant to the American Lung Association in Arizona. He spent most of his career in the financial services sector, retiring from American Express in 2012 as Vice President of Business Development Strategy for the Corporate Services division.
