Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, announced Jeffrey A. Bernick has been appointed Phoenix Office Managing Principal. Bernick succeeds Gregg E. Clifton, who has stepped down from the management role to focus his attention on overseeing the continued growth and expansion of the firm’s Collegiate and Professional Sports Practice Group.
“Since joining Jackson Lewis in 2013, Jeff has proven himself as a stellar employment litigator and counselor,” said Firm Chairman Vincent A. Cino. “His impressive work in the courtroom, coupled with his strong ties to the Phoenix legal and business community and vision for expanding Jackson Lewis’ regional footprint in Arizona, made him a clear choice for our next Office Managing Principal. We look forward to seeing how the office will continue to strengthen under his leadership.”
“I am fortunate to build upon the solid foundation that exists in Phoenix, and look forward to working with our team of talented attorneys as we continue to attract high-quality laterals and develop new ways to provide superior client service to employers,” added Bernick.
For the last 25 years, Bernick has represented employers in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies on a variety of litigation matters. He advises both private and public employers on day-to-day issues affecting the workplace, including employee discipline and discharge, wage and hour issues, workplace privacy, internal investigations, employee handbooks/manuals, employment and confidentiality agreements, medical leave policies and practices, accommodation of disabled individuals, and many other human resources policies and procedures. Throughout his career, Bernick has maintained an active appellate practice and handled more than 35 appeals in the Arizona Court of Appeals.
Bernick, who is AV Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, has served as the Arizona State Personnel Board’s Special Counsel for the past decade. In this role, he has represented the Board in all of its litigation, as well as provided the Board and its hearing officers with day to day counsel. Bernick regularly conducts management and employee training on a wide variety of employment law topics. He also frequently speaks on employment law developments before professional and business organizations.
Bernick received his B.A. from Boston University and his J.D. from the University of Arizona’s James R. Rogers College of Law, where he received the 1988 Ares Fellowship.
