Northern Arizona University hired Richard L. Heath as the new executive director of the NAU campus in Prescott Valley. He will start work on October 24, 2016.
Heath brings strong relationships in this region through his current role as the executive director of the Greater Prescott Regional Economic Partnership.
“Richard will bring his passion for NAU and higher education along with his experience as a visionary leader to this region,” said NAU President Rita Cheng. “Richard has exciting ideas on expanding our academic programs to address the needs of the communities in Yavapai County.”
The Prescott Valley campus serves as a hub to meet the needs of the entire county and region. NAU remains committed to Prescott Valley’s Strategic Economic Development Plan focusing on business development, education, and workforce development.
Heath says that commitment is why he decided to come to NAU.
“I’m looking forward to utilizing my economic development and workforce development experience to enhance our Prescott Valley campus and educational success throughout Yavapai County. I see the campus becoming a valuable community asset as the region grows and NAU has the opportunity to provide significant resources toward education and workforce development,” he said.
NAU recently expanded its outreach, recruitment and market research in Yavapai County, through a recent review of current area job openings, employer needs and expansion opportunities.
NAU also recently opened a visitor’s center across from Harkins Theater in Prescott Valley. The new visitor’s center provides information along with retail opportunities for the community to purchase NAU clothing and merchandise.
Heath is taking over for Susan Johnstad who has served as the Assistant Vice President and Campus Executive Officer for the NAU-Yavapai campus for the past six years. Johnstad is transitioning into a new role in Phoenix as Associate Vice President for Online and Statewide Programs for Extended Campuses, furthering NAU’s goals of educating Arizona residents.
