Today’s spotlight: Kristine Newman, CPA
Title: Senior vice president, McCarthy Holdings
Newman evaluates and analyzes strategies to deploy and diversify capital for the benefit of the company’s employee-owners.
Source of pride: “I am most proud of being an integral part of McCarthy’s Southwest Region leadership team to help deliver exceptional results for clients and grow the region’s revenue by more than 200 percent during my 13 years serving as controller and vice president of finance. In this role, I also helped launch the McCarthy Partnership for Women, a national resource group that supports the recruitment, development and retention of women in our industry to broaden diversity of perspective. I am proud to work with a company that prioritizes this culture.”
The personality trait that helped you succeed: “Grit, I am motivated by perseverance and determination. This has allowed me to always look for the best outcome or try a different way to approach a challenge and achieve a successful outcome.”
The personality trait that got you into trouble: “Grit! Sometimes not wanting to give up on an issue can get you into trouble. I have learned that there are definitely times when I need to step back and leave well enough alone.”
Best childhood memory: “Riding in the front passenger seat of my family’s Chrysler station wagon with the windows down and at least one friend sitting next to me in my home state of Indiana. Memories of these simple moments remind me to slow down and appreciate the little things when life is trying to throw you off track.”
