Today’s spotlight: Sara B. Nance

Title: Partner, Wallace Plese + Dreher

Nance develops tax and business strategies for privately-held Arizona companies. Specializing in international tax, she offers comprehensive tax planning, including U.S. income tax consulting for U.S. expatriates.

Source of pride:I worked for a Big Four firm as a tax manager and decided to take time away from public accounting. In 2008, I overcame the challenge of returning to public accounting, took a staff position with my current firm, progressed quickly to manager, and became a partner in 2016.”

The personality trait that helped you succeed:I am approachable, love to talk to people, and take time to get to know my clients. Quality communication with my clients helps me understand their business and assists with tax and business planning.”

The personality trait that got you into trouble:As a CPA, I have an inherent desire to help people and say ‘yes.’ Sometimes, it is uncomfortable to say no. I have good intentions; however, there is only so much time. I am improving by asking better questions and managing current commitments.”

Best childhood memory:Summers in central Illinois during my elementary school years. I grew up in a neighborhood with lots of kids my age. We would play kickball in the streets and hide and seek until we all had to be home when the streetlights came on.”
