Today’s spotlight: Sara Begley

Title: Executive vice president, general counsel, and chief compliance officer, CopperPoint Insurance Companies

Begley joined CopperPoint Insurance Companies in November 2008 and became its general counsel in 2012. In 2018, she was named General Counsel of the Year in the C-Suite Awards sponsored by the Phoenix Business Journal and was presented with the Ronald McDonald House 2018 Heart of the House Award.

Source of pride:I am most proud of contributing to CopperPoint’s transformation and growth from Arizona’s State Compensation Fund to a regional commercial insurance company operating in six southwestern states.  This has been a multi-year team effort and I’m extremely fortunate to have been a part of this strategic effort.”

The personality trait that helped you succeed:Integrity has helped me succeed in business and also helps me sleep at night.  CopperPoint’s Board of Directors and its employees and customers are counting on me to be honest, fair and ethical.  I strive to reflect these values in all my interactions.”

The personality trait that got you into trouble:Persistence can be a blessing and a curse. While being persistent hasn’t necessarily gotten me into trouble, I know it has come close on more than one occasion!”

Best childhood memory:My favorite childhood memory is going with my family to pick up our first dog, a tiny Boston Terrier pup named Cinder.  My brother and I passed her between us, cupping her in our hands and breathing in her puppy smell.  It was love at first sight.”
