Arizona’s unemployment rate remained at 8 percent in July as the state’s economy lost jobs in both government and private business.

Job losses in July totaled 5,500 jobs in the private sector and 9,600 in government, with the most losses recorded in education in government and in leisure and hospitality in the private sector.

The rate for June rose to 8 percent from 7.8 percent in May.

The state’s July rate is lower than the rate of 8.4 percent from a year earlier.
