SET University, a Ukrainian technological university, announces a grant system for master’s programs in technical specialties. The announcement was published on Facebook by Sergey Tokarev, an IT investor and businessman, and co-founder of the university. According to Tokarev, the SET Grants initiative aims at providing equal access to quality technological education for everyone.
“Ukrainians will be able to get grants covering up to 100 percent of the tuition fee for master’s programs in Cyber Defense, Innovation Engineering, Data Engineering, Machine Learning & Cloud Solutions,” Tokarev says.
The following groups can apply for the scholarships:
- talented IT specialists;
- applicants with high entrance scores;
- current members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine, veterans;
- children and spouses of military personnel;
- Ukrainian women who want to develop in the IT industry.
As it stands on the SET University website, the scholarship will be given to those selected based on the results of the Unified Entrance Exam and The Unified Professional Entrance Exam, as well as the previous activities of the applicants, their motivation letter, and interview results.
According to Iryna Volnytska, President of SET University, the idea behind the scholarship program is to select the most talented candidates and find those who will actively invest in the development of the industry.
“This is not a classic charity, it is very similar to the spirit of IT startups and the technological environment. In fact, it is an investment that will help future leaders of the tech sector realize themselves in this area,” Volnytska explains.

According to Sergey Tokarev, the main requirements for applying to SET University are having a desire to develop, and showing interest and willingness to develop the IT sector.
All four master’s programs—Cyber Defence, Innovation Engineering, Data Engineering, and Machine Learning & Cloud Technologies—are designed with an emphasis on combining theory and practical skills. During their studies, students will explore innovative solutions at the intersection of technological domains, information security management, Artificial Intelligence, cyber defense, development of integrated infrastructure solutions, cloud data, Machine Learning, etc.
At the same time, students will study not only technological disciplines but also management and various aspects of tech product development. 90 percent of the training is planned to be online, so students can combine study and work. As a graduation project, students must develop their own startup or a technological solution for a real company.
Among the invited lecturers to the SET University are representatives of top IT companies, including:
- Nick Gisinto, former CIA officer, developer of information security systems for Uber and Tesla;
- Andrew Boren, former FBI officer and director of the Flashpoint intelligence company;
- Gauthier Wasser, a lecturer in business analytics and artificial intelligence at the University of California, Berkeley.
