In today’s U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals issue, three Banner Health hospitals are ranked in the top 50 hospitals nationally for specialty care areas.  In addition, four of the top 10 hospitals in the Arizona ranking are Banner hospitals.

Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix is recognized nationally for geriatrics, nephrology, and urology. Banner – University Medical Center Tucson is also recognized nationally for geriatrics, plus cancer, gynecology, and pulmonology. Banner Estrella is ranked nationally for pulmonology.

A national ranking means the publication considers those hospitals to be among the best hospitals in the country for those particular specialties. This year only 152 hospitals are nationally ranked in at least one of 16 medical specialties.

As part of this report, U.S. News also ranks hospitals at the state level. Tying at the No. 2 spot in Arizona are Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix and Banner – University Medical Center Tucson. Banner Estrella Medical Center in Phoenix is ranked No. 4, and Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City took the No. 7 spot.

These state rankings evaluate more than 100 hospitals in Arizona, and rank those that meet U.S. News standards. View the full list of Arizona rankings on the U.S. News site.

U.S. News & World Report publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face a particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition or extra risk because of age or multiple health problems. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, adequacy of nurse staffing and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.
