Abrazo Health, the second largest health care delivery system in Arizona, is offering a new online scheduling for routine screening mammograms.
Women can book their annual screening mammogram appointments at Arrowhead Hospital and Phoenix Baptist Hospital by visiting AbrazoHealth.com/Mammogram from an Internet-connected computer, phone or tablet. They are the first hospitals in Arizona to use InQuicker’s online mammogram scheduling tool. InQuicker’s online self-scheduling lets patients book appointments for healthcare services and check-in for estimated treatment times at ERs.
Patients will receive an email confirmation that includes appointment date and time, directions to the provider’s facility, and other detailed instructions to help ensure prompt service upon arrival.
“Abrazo Health’s new tool is a simple and convenient way for those with busy lives and busy families to conveniently schedule their routine mammograms,’’ said Market Chief Executive Officer Michele Finney.
Breast cancer is the leading cancer among women in the United States, but early detection can lead to a 98 percent survival rate, according to the National Cancer Institute.
“Routine screening exams for breast cancer are important because they find cancers before they start to cause signs such as a lump,” said Phoenix Baptist Hospital Chief Medical Officer Lynnette Watkins.
Arrowhead Hospital and Phoenix Baptist Hospital chief medical officers encourage annual mammograms for women who are 40 to 49 years old while women aged 50 to 74 may be screened every other year with regular well-woman exams.
“Breast cancers found during screening exams are more likely to be smaller and still confined to the breast. The size of a breast cancer and how far it has spread are some of the most important factors in predicting the prognosis of a woman with this disease,” said Arrowhead Chief Medical Officer Patrick Smith.
Mammography appointment scheduling is a new addition to the self-scheduling emergency room service already available for Abrazo Health facilities. AbrazoHealth.com/ER, which provides its users with an estimated treatment time enabling them to wait from the comfort of home, is available for emergency care at Arizona Heart Hospital, Arrowhead Hospital, Paradise Valley Hospital, Phoenix Baptist Hospital, Maryvale Hospital, West Valley Hospital, North Peoria Emergency Center and West Valley Emergency Center.
Those with life-threatening or debilitating medical conditions should dial 911 or go immediately to the nearest emergency department rather than using the online self-scheduling service.
