Ballard Spahr is hosting a Government Relations Roadshow featuring former Arizona Governor Janice. K. Brewer and former Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell to discuss campaign finance disclosure, the upcoming presidential election and evolving laws that govern political activity.
The first stop on the roadshow, A Meeting at the Corner of Law & Politics, will be held Jan. 27 at Hotel Palomar Phoenix at CityScape in downtown Phoenix. The firm plans to hold similar events this year in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.
“Now more than ever, it is imperative that elected officials, administrators, candidates, and consultants understand the laws governing their behavior and the consequences for noncompliance,” said Joseph A. Kanefield, a partner in the firm’s Phoenix office, and Practice Leader of the firm’s newly formed Political and Election Law Group. “Our distinguished speakers have firsthand experience in government and politics. It’s going to be a fantastic—and timely—event.”
Dark Money, Disclosure & Donuts; Campaign Finance and What You Should Know, will be presented by members of Ballard Spahr’s Government Relations, Regulatory Affairs and Contracting Group.
The group will discuss the evolving and challenging issues involving campaign finance that corporations, labor organizations, trade associations, candidates, and political committees need to consider.
Their presentation will be followed by a panel of prominent local journalists who will be discussing proposals to reform the campaign finance disclosure laws in Arizona. David J. Bodney, who leads the firm’s Media and Entertainment Law Group, will moderate the discussion.
The program will be followed by lunch, a panel discussion and Q&A session on the 2016 presidential election. That panel includes Gov. Brewer; Gov. Edward G. Rendell; Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich; and Fred P. DuVal, Managing Director of Amicus Investors and the Democratic nominee in the 2014 Arizona gubernatorial race. Both former governors work with the Government Relations team at Ballard Spahr.
