Grenee Martacho, CEO, Concord General Contracting

BACKGROUND: Grenee Martacho has made it her mission to shatter the norms in commercial construction while empowering the men and women around her to do the same. She joined Concord in 2007 as a marketing coordinator and became a partner and vice president in 2016. In 2020, Martacho took the helm as the company’s CEO. As CEO, she leads a team of 65 employees and manages $90 million in annual revenue while carrying out a strategic plan that constantly focuses on growing the firm.

CAREER PATH INSPIRATION: “I thought I would be in construction for two years tops — the people in this industry changed my path. Every day, I get to work with people who are authentic, strong and appreciative. They make me want to work harder to be a better leader and find new ways to make our culture even stronger.”

SOURCE OF PRIDE: “I became CEO in January 2020, with big aspirations; COVID changed everything. I became reactive to protecting our company, listening to individuals’ struggles dealing with constant change, and remaining strong when we lost an employee, all while celebrating becoming an ESOP and giving ownership to our employees. Before 2020, I didn’t deal with change well. Today, I take pride that I learned that pivoting when faced with adversity is what makes a strong leader.”

SOURCE OF INSPIRATION: “The people at Concord that I get the honor of working with every day. As leaders, we are constantly growing and learning and I’m lucky to be surrounded by people that support me when making difficult decisions, celebrate together when we win, listen to my crazy ideas and thoughts, and support me in good and bad times. If I didn’t have their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

SURPRISING FACT: “I’m a self-diagnosed true crime junky. I look forward to decompressing after a long week watching new episodes of Dateline and 20/20. My friends and family call me crazy, which just makes me suspicious and question their motives even more!”
