Acken focuses her practice on labor and employment law. Acken has defended numerous companies in gender, race, and disability discrimination cases in state and federal court. She also has wide-ranging experience representing public and private entities in EEOC claims, wrongful termination, internal investigations, state and federal leave issues, and more.

Lesson learned in 2020: “There is no ‘best way’ to get the job done. I used to try and control every aspect of my work product, but the pandemic made that impossible. I had to be creative, find alternatives, and rely on others, and the final product ended up being as good, if not better, through that collaboration.”

Source of pride: “I am proud to have gotten exactly where I am in my career right now. I made decisions early in my career that were best for my family and me. I thought those decisions might end my chances of returning to a private law practice. I was more than willing to pay that price, but I’m very thankful that I didn’t have to.”

Surprising fact: “I’m a lifelong auto racing fan! I’m from Indianapolis, so I was born that way.”
