Laura Nelson

Vice president of sustainability and external affairs

Southwest Gas

Background: Nelson is responsible for leading  the Southwest Gas’ sustainable business practices, public policy initiatives and corporate communications efforts, while advancing its environmental, social, and governance goals.

Key to success: “Seizing opportunities, building high-performing teams, and creating meaningful partnerships have all been key, professionally and personally. I’ve never been shy about taking on challenges, and I cannot accomplish anything alone. We embrace the ONE team approach at Southwest Gas, innovating energy solutions to sustain our communities.”

Source of pride: “The incredible advancements I’ve been part of to build a sustainable future for everyone. It’s been an honor to serve with two governors and with Southwest Gas, doing my part to elevate people, place, and performance. It’s my passion, and something I embraced to drive positive impact in our communities.”

Surprising fact: “I love art and have been painting for 14 years. I consider myself an “artist in training,” utilizing acrylics to create abstract art for my family and friends. My favorite artist is Marc Chagall, a modernist artist. I also enjoy the works of Tim Burton, Robert Kipness, and Malcolm Myers.”
