Nonnie Shivers, Ogletree Deakins
Background: Shivers is a nationally recognized thought leader in employment law. Shivers partners with Fortune 10 to small locally owned businesses to proactively create and sustain legally compliant workplaces across all 50 states through training solutions, c-suite investigations and super subject matter expertise on cutting edge employment topics, such as creating lawful inclusion programs in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
Source of pride: “Leading organizations successfully through seismic changes (either in their business or in the law) as a seamless extension and trusted partner. The trust and confidence clients and colleagues have in me is the greatest privilege imaginable, whether guiding clients through COVID or through the new administration’s dramatic changes, including as the co-chair of Ogletree’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Compliance practice group.
Professional advice: “Be radically and unapologetically authentic. Share what makes you memorable and unique to develop meaningful connections with others. Never respond to questions like “what’s new?” or “how’s it going” with a stock answer – add value, levity and connectivity by being the most interesting version of yourself. Rigorously develop and share your personal brand since organizations today hire lawyers, not law firms.”
Surprising fact: “I am passionate about public speaking and educating others on the law as many know. Few know the origin of my public speaking abilities date back to high school where I spoke across the United States as Miss Kansas Job’s Daughter (even wearing a cape and crown!) and competed in debate and forensics alongside some small-time folks you may have heard of — Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis and Eric Stonestreet!”
