NTT Ltd., a world-leading global technology services provider, announced that its Global Data Centers Americas division is building a new data center campus in Mesa – a strategic addition to a rapidly expanding portfolio. With recently opened campuses in Chicago, Ill., Hillsboro, Ore., and Santa Clara, Calif., the new Phoenix campus, slated to open in early 2022, will be the fourth U.S. market NTT has launched in since February 2021, growing its footprint from three to seven campuses.

“We are pleased to take this next step in our U.S. expansion plans with a new Phoenix campus,” said Masaaki Moribayashi, President and Board Director for NTT Ltd. “We’re continuing to show all of our clients who would like to accelerate their business growth through digital transformation that we’re committed to growing our global portfolio to better serve them and their business goals.”
Located in Mesa just 30 minutes from downtown Phoenix and Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport, the 102-acre campus will have seven data centers offering a total of 240 megawatts (MW) of critical IT load and 1.5 million sq. ft. of space, along with an on-site dedicated substation. The first data center will offer 36MW across six 6MW vaults and 126,000 sq. ft. of data floor space, suitable for deployments of all sizes.
The Phoenix data center market’s growth makes it one of the most dynamic in the country, and it’s poised for even more growth in the coming years.
“The number of clients and major providers currently in the region, or set to be there soon, speaks to the fact that Phoenix has become a real data center destination,” said Doug Adams, CEO for the Global Data Centers Americas division of NTT Ltd. “We want to have a presence in the markets that make the most sense for our clients – Phoenix stood out as one of those markets, and the city of Mesa, in particular, was the perfect fit.”
Mesa is attracting data center providers and high-tech manufacturers from all over the world with more than 1,000 acres of shovel-ready property, a streamlined entitlement process, and competitive Foreign Trade Zone.
“Mesa is becoming one of the nation’s premier strategic hubs for companies like NTT, thanks to our affordable power and robust fiber network,” said Mesa Mayor John Giles. “NTT has made an excellent decision in selecting our Elliot Road Tech corridor as the home for their new data center campus.”
NTT’s presence in the region will support the growing data center market, which is bringing jobs and economic benefits to Arizona.
“We are excited to welcome NTT to Arizona,” said Sandra Watson, President & CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. “We’re grateful they chose Mesa and look forward to their future success as a part of Arizona’s thriving data center ecosystem.”
The Phoenix campus will be built to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified specifications for Core and Shell, signaling NTT controls the design and construction of the entire mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection system. This design will conserve energy and reduce water usage at each of the data centers. LEED is the most widely used green building rating system, and building to these standards highlights NTT’s commitment to design and develop efficient data centers. Renewable energy options will also be available for clients looking to further decrease their environmental impact.
The campus will offer access to multiple leading public, private, and hybrid cloud providers and will utilize air-cooled chillers with airside economizers. Phoenix clients will be supported 24x7x365 by highly trained, in-house staff experts in operations, facilities management, security, and shipping and receiving. The data centers will offer plenty of on-site amenities, including business-ready conference rooms, a break room with a dedicated lounge and kitchen area, hoteling stations with ergonomic workstations, Wi-Fi, and on-site parking.
