Tomorrow night, on March 26, 2024, 22-year-old forward Josh Doan, son of the legendary former Coyotes captain and all-time goal-scoring leader, Shane Doan, will be making his NHL debut, becoming the first player born, raised, and trained in Arizona to join the Arizona Coyotes. Josh’s debut underscores the rarity of NHL players originating from the desert, highlighting the evolving landscape of hockey in the region.

In a time where the rallying cry “Hockey Belongs In The Desert” unites Arizonans, Scottsdale native Josh Doan embodies this sentiment perfectly. Born and raised in the Phoenix area while watching his father play for the Phoenix/Arizona franchise for 20 of his 21 NHL seasons, Josh is breaking new ground and solidifying the team’s deep connection to the local community.

Josh played collegiately at Arizona State and was drafted by the Coyotes in the second round (37th overall pick) in 2021. He leads the Roadrunners with 46 points (26 goals, 20 assists) through 62 games this season, leading all AHL rookies in goals.
