Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a national non-profit committed to providing all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience, is establishing a PCA-Phoenix chapter with major financial support from Tom Lewis and the T.W. Lewis Foundation.

“Thanks to Tom Lewis and the T.W. Lewis Foundation, the youth of Phoenix will benefit from character development through sports,” said Jim Thompson, PCA’s founder and chief executive officer. “Our training, which results in youth learning life lessons from sports as they compete, comprises three models: the Double-Goal Coach, whose first goal is winning, and whose second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports; the Second-Goal Parent, who concentrates on life lessons, while letting coaches and athletes focus on competing; and the Triple-Impact Competitor, who strives to impact sport on three levels by improving oneself, teammates and the game as a whole.”

PCA’s Double-Goal Coach training for youth and high school sports coaches occurs through a combination of live group workshops for all the coaches of a partnering school or youth sports organization, online courses that complement the live training, books by Jim Thompson, and follow-up electronic communications that reinforce the training year-round. Positive Coaching Alliance provides similar tracks of training for sports parents, student-athletes, and school or organizational leaders.

To ensure a successful beginning for the PCA-Phoenix chapter, the T.W. Lewis Foundation will provide a three-year matching grant.

“We are excited to help this quality organization get started in Phoenix,” said Tom Lewis. “We believe that it will make a large and positive impact on youth sports throughout the Greater Phoenix area.”

In addition to the new PCA-Phoenix chapter, Positive Coaching Alliance has operations in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Philadelphia/New York/New Jersey, Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay area and Washington, DC. Positive Coaching Alliance conducts workshops throughout the U.S., including areas that do not have established PCA operations.
