The Arizona Osteopathic Association yesterday bestowed a “Lifetime Achievement Award” – its highest honor- upon Arthur Mollen, DO, a longtime family medicine provider and health advocate with Steward Medical Group. The award recognizes the impact Dr. Mollen has had on his patients and the Greater Phoenix region throughout his medical career.

“You are extremely deserving of this honor and your contributions to the rise and prominence of osteopathic medicine in Arizona exemplify a lifetime of commitment to the profession,” the AOMA states in a letter to Mollen.

Dr. Mollen has been an integral part of many patients’ lives and an advocate for them and their health. He is the founder of the 3TV Phoenix 10K and Half Marathon, which he began in 1976. The annual event is Arizona’s largest road race, drawing more than 6,000 participants and has grown to include a community lecture and annual Arizona Runner’s Hall of Fame Dinner. Dr. Mollen and Paige Mollen, his wife, also oversee The Mollen Foundation, which is dedicated to combating childhood obesity. The Foundation’s work includes establishing community gardens to help children grow, harvest, and cook their own vegetables.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this recognition by the Arizona Osteopathic Association,” Dr. Mollen said. “I appreciate the support the Association has shown me and my follow Doctors of Osteopathic medicine throughout my career. It’s a privilege to care for the citizens of Arizona and to help them live their healthiest lives.”

Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine are fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine, with an emphasis on treating the whole person. They are trained to listen and partner with their patients to assist them in getting healthy and maintaining wellness. A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) also has specialized training in the musculoskeletal system, which is the body’s interconnected system of nerves, muscles and bones. Using their knowledge, along with the latest advances in medical technology, DO’s provide patients the most comprehensive care available.

“We are proud to have Dr. Mollen as a distinguished member of Steward Medical Group,” said Dr. Michael Callum, president of Steward Medical Group. “He is an exemplary physician and an inspiration to his colleagues, patients and residents of Arizona.”

Dr. Mollen is in practice at The Mollen Clinic, 16100 N. 71st St., Suite 100, in Scottsdale and his office may be reached 480-656-0016. He is affiliated with St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center, a Steward Family Hospital. Dr. Mollen is also a familiar face to many and go-to health resource, appearing every Sunday morning on 3TV Phoenix’s “Good Morning Arizona” program, providing medical information to thousands of viewers. Dr. Mollen is also an accomplished author, having written a syndicated health column that was published weekly in more than 100 newspapers around the country. He was also previously recommended for the post of Surgeon General for the United States.

“I’ve always loved medicine and helping people,” Dr. Mollen said. “My career has given me the opportunity to help so many others achieve better health and wellness and it’s such a privilege to have that relationship with my patients.”

A father of three, Dr. Mollen is also a long-time running enthusiast and has worked tirelessly to motivate others to run. The 3TV 10K and Half Marathon grew from his vision and is now the premier running event in Arizona. Dr. Mollen has completed three Boston Marathons and numerous triathlons. He swims daily and has no plans to hang up his sneakers or his stethoscope soon.

“Staying fit and active is a key ingredient in living a healthful life,” Dr. Mollen said. “I look forward to continuing to care for my patients and to be an advocate for them in the office and on the race course.”
