Cinco de Mayo celebrates the day of the Mexican Army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican war on May 5, 1862. Flash forward 160 years to today, Cinco de Mayo has become a widely celebrated holiday in the U.S. to celebrate Mexican culture and heritage. Cinco De Mayo Downtown Phoenix Festival 

This year marks the 30th annual Cinco De Mayo Festival in Downtown Phoenix, one of the largest multicultural festivals in Arizona. On May 7, you can celebrate at Arizona’s largest Cinco de Mayo festival starting at 12 p.m, with Baile Folklorico, Grammy artists, lucha libre and a variety of delicious food vendors and exhibitors. 

The festival will be located off 1st Avenue and Washington Street. General admission tickets start at $10, but if you get to the festival early before 5 p.m., tickets will be available for only $5. Buy tickets online here

Skysill Rooftop Lounge 

Celebrate this Cinco de Mayo at Skysill Rooftop Lounge, the Valley’s highest open-air rooftop bar perched atop The Westin Tempe Hotel. From 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 5, guests can celebrate the fiesta with limited-time holiday menu specials. Menu specials include street tacos ($5), carne asada nachos ($18), beef anticucho ($18) and more! Guests can also enjoy sipping on $5 Skysill passion fruit margaritas, $5 Espolon Tequila shots and $5 Corona Premier Beer, along with a live DJ.

Blanco Cocina + Cantina 

Don’t limit your Cinco de Mayo celebrations to just one day, celebrate Cinco de Mayo all week long at Blanco Cocina + Cantina! From May 1 through May 7, all four Blanco locations in the Valley will celebrate the Mexican holiday complete with a special cocktail menu, plus live music from mariachis and DJs (differs by location) during various times of the day. Specials include “Mi Casa Su Casa,” ($25) a round of four mini margaritas and four cold Dos XX lagers and more. 

Blanco will also offer craveable dishes like Mexican pizza, chimichangas and tiger shrimp fajitas. 

Bar Louie

Cinco de Mayo, say salud with Bar Louie! This neighborhood bar is offering $7 Dos Sauza Margaritas from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 5, plus guests can also enjoy the brand-new Rock & Rita just in time for this special holiday. The Rock & Rita is Bar Louie’s innovative twist on the beloved marg. Luckys Indoor Outdoor

Luckys Indoor Outdoor is bringing the fiesta to Roosevelt Row this Cinco de Mayo with live music, tasty eats and themed drink specials. The bar will be serving up $8 specialty margaritas, $6 house margaritas and $6 Modelo from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The festivities will be in full effect at 6 p.m. with live music on the patio.
